Old Bones New Blog One Room Challenge Spring 2025

Surprise! After years of sitting on the sidelines, we're throwing our hat in the ring for the One Room Challenge! Some of you may know we recently moved to a new (old) home in Pacific Grove,Ca complete with a lovely (and currently very empty) back house / rug studio! We'll we thought, what better way to kickstart our design process than join this fun friendly design community event. One Room Challenge, here we come! 

What is the One Room Challenge?

The One Room Challenge is a biannual event where participants have eight weeks to completely transform a room in their home. This year however, things are shaking up! For the first time ever a full transformation is not the only way to enter. This year, the powers that be introduced "mini projects". Think less complete room makeover, more manageable home project transformations. 

How does it work?

Participants choose a room or mini projects to makeover. Each week, they share their progress, setbacks, and victories with the community both online and on the One Room Challenge share page. Participants final reveals are shared at the end of the eight weeks challenge timeline, showcasing the stunning transformations that have taken place over the course of the event!

Time to get a room!

As previously mentioned, our One Room Challenge entry is going to be focusing on sprucing up our studio/back house. It's an amazing space with loads of light and charm but, if I'm honest, I've been struggling with the design a bit.


If you've been around since the Texas rug shop days, you know my style leans a bit cozy traditional and I like big, high impact design. My last space featured a 13 foot rug wall and massive mirror gallery that spanned over 20 feet! (SEE HERE) Maybe it's the pitch of the roof that cuts the room in half or the slightly orange-y tone of the flooring but, I'm just having the hardest time figuring this room out.


So what's a girl to do? Turns out, the answer is obvious.... add more rugs!  


The Project List:

Going to break these into groups because I'm trying to be kind to myself and take some pressure off! This is my first One Room Challenge after all!!
