So now that the big news is out officially out. We've joined the Spring 2025 One Room Challange and it's time to get started! Now that we're all on the same page, let's talk about the first project! Drum roll please..... The first project is.......
Ta-Da!!! .....I can practically hear you asking, "what does that even mean?" Let me explain...
One of my biggest needs in the studio space at the moment is a very boring one. I need a dedicated shipping area to help make shipping more efficient. But, the shop is small and shipping stations are notoriously ugly. So what's a girl to do? Answer: Hide it behind something pretty! Enter the reappearance of the RUG WALL!
Admittedly, hiding an ugly bulky shipping station behind 8" deep rug wall, isn't the obvious choice. And it creates the issue of having to figure out how to fit it behind such a shallow space. Luckily I found this video by Thomas Custom Woodwork and it all started making sense! Murphy shipping station, here we come!
Clearly I'm not an interior designer but, I made this lovely tape wall rendering just for you! Please study it carefully as I explain the key design points and project needs....
1. Fold Down Murphy Table:
- Needs to be as low profile as possible. No more than 8" deep when folded down.
- Must be strong enough to hold a 100 lb rug.
- Dedicated spots for packaging material roll, printer and laptop.
2. Rolling Storage Cart:
- Want something mobile that can move around the room with me.
- Enough compartments to hold shipping stationary, scales, extra labels, etc.
- Can only be 8" deep and no more than 19" wide.
3. Hanging Items:
- A cute space to display shop momentos and personal photos. (This is just for the asthetics really. Has to be cute, right?)
- Must find a folding stool! Would love to be able to hang it above the rolling card so everything has a place!
Off to Home Depot and Amazon we went! Materials and tools listed below for ya! We made ours 42" wide by 31" inches deep but you can really customize it to any size you like!

How To:
Step 1: MAKE CUTS
Step 2: WOOD GLUE AND NAIL pieces together to create the counter top. (Its basically a box with no bottom or back side.
Step 4: CREATE AN ANCHOR by securing cut 2x3 to studs with lag bolts.
STEP 4: INSTALL SHELF by securing it to the anchor with construction screws.
Step 5: PIANO HINGES ON bottom of the shelf then connect the desk to the other side of the hinge.
Step 6: ATTACH THE LEGS with the folding brackets so that they fold into the desk and can easily pop out when the desk is in use!
Ta-da! You've just built yourself a very basic hideaway shipping station! But we're not done yet! Come back next week to see the finishing touches and styling! And don't forget to check back the following week as we make this thing disappear for good with the resurrection of the RUG WALL!
